Traineeship

In response to the public health crisis associated with the Coronavirus, the NC Board of Funeral Service has closed the office suite at 1033 Wade Avenue in Raleigh, NC to visitors until further notice. Board staff are also subject to telework arrangements and not on-site unless necessary. Even though we are taking all necessary precautions to assure our safety and well-being during this time of crisis, we are continuing our services to licensees and the public through emails and telephone calls. Traineeship Overview

About Traineeship

The North Carolina Board of Funeral Service is responsible for determining the qualifications of applicants and issuing certificates to those determined to be properly qualified. It is unlawful for any person to practice funeral service, funeral directing, or embalming in North Carolina unless one has been duly licensed.

In order to be licensed to practice in North Carolina, an individual must:

  1. Be of good character and reputation.
  2. Satisfactorily pass the examinations by the Board.
  3. Submit evidence of education.
  4. Pay the required fees.
  5. Successfully complete 12 months of supervised apprenticeship.
