About Traineeship
The North Carolina Board of Funeral Service is responsible for determining the qualifications of applicants and issuing certificates to those determined to be properly qualified. It is unlawful for any person to practice funeral service, funeral directing, or embalming in North Carolina unless one has been duly licensed.
In order to be licensed to practice in North Carolina, an individual must:
- Be of good character and reputation.
- Satisfactorily pass the examinations by the Board.
- Submit evidence of education.
- Pay the required fees.
- Successfully complete 12 months of supervised apprenticeship.
