Continuing Education

Continuing Education Requirements
Unless otherwise exempt, individuals with a license in funeral service, funeral directing or embalming must complete five (5) hours of continuing education annually as a condition for license renewal. Individuals holding an active, current provisional Funeral Director license are required to complete five (5) hours of continuing education credit each year as a condition for license renewal.
Individuals receiving a Funeral Director, Funeral Service and Embalmer for the first time are not required to complete the five (5) hours of CE credit for the renewal cycle immediately following the year in which they were licensed. Provisional Funeral Director licensees are required to complete the five (5) hours of CE credit beginning for the renewal cycle immediately following the year in which they received a provisional license.
Effective January 1, 2023, active licensees may acquire all five (5) hours of CE credit through online instruction. Additionally, there is no longer any limit on the number of CE credit hours that can be accrued by instruction on the Board’s preneed program.
If an active licensee earns more than ten (10) hours of CE credit in a calendar year, five (5) hours of credit may be applied to the renewal cycle immediately following the calendar year in which the credit is earned. An additional five (5) hours of credit may be rolled over and applied to the next renewal cycle. Licensees may accumulate more than ten (10) hours of CE credit in a calendar year, but any hours in excess of ten (10) hours is forfeited and unavailable for credit toward license renewal.
You Need 5 Hours of Continuing Education (CE) Credit Every Year
