FRAUD ALERT

From across North Carolina, the Board of Funeral Service (NCBFS) has received reports of scammers contacting grieving families by phone to demand immediate payment or cancellation of planned services. If you receive a phone call that demands immediate payment or communicates threats that are inconsistent with the payment arrangements you made during the arrangement conference with the funeral home or crematory, we highly recommend that you not give the caller any personal identifying or financial information. End the call and contact the funeral home or crematory directly using the provider’s published phone number.

Moreover, no one from the Board will ever contact a consumer or licensed provider to demand payment of any kind by phone. All fees paid to the Board must be remitted using an online payment portal published on the Board’s website, or, by check or money order, sent via USPS or other carrier to an address published on the Board’s website:  https://ncbfs.org/.
